Summary
Managed and coordinated the in-house and outsourced machining of 86 custom parts for the suspension, steering, and brakes system of the solar car. Achieved a fully assembled rolling chassis within a 3 month timeline, starting from just the spaceframe chassis and billets of aluminum/steel.
Front Suspension Control Arms
Designed a jig to accurately hold parts for tack welding, versatile across each skew
Incorpated GD&T in jig development and post-welding to as inspection for concentricity of bearing bores
Upright Assembly
Coordinated with local machine shops to machine the components of the upright assembly
Drafted part drawings with GD&T to communicate design intent and ensure proper geometric interactions at bearing & engineering fits
Rear Suspension Components including outsourced and manual machined parts
2x Shock clevis manually milled from billet of 4140 steel
Waterjet 1.5 inch thick clevises to remove bulk material
Rolling Chassis Assembly
I managed and coordinated the manufacturing efforts across suspension, steering, & brakes to achieve a fully assembled rolling chassis within 3 months
Secured $12,000 of sponsored services from local machine shops contributing towards the front & rear suspensions
